| JOB DESCRIPTION: |
Develop, coordinate, and manage the district’s elementary language arts and reading program for grades K-4. Serve as an instructional leader in the development and improvement of instructional programs in elementary language arts and reading. Provide support, training, leadership, and expertise in the district-wide elementary language arts and reading (K-4) program in Conroe ISD. |
| DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: |
- Develop, plan, implement, and evaluate curriculum and instructional programs with teachers and principals, to include learning objectives, instructional strategies, performance objectives, and assessment techniques.
- Utilize district studies, research, and research-based programs to improve curriculum, instruction, and staff development.
- Collaborate with teachers and staff to evaluate, select, and manage textbooks, instructional materials, and equipment in alignment with board policy and the state Instructional Material Review and Approval (IMRA) process.
- Promote and support the effective integration of technology into the teaching and learning process.
- Recommend and implement policies, regulations, and procedures; prepare and maintain reports and descriptive statistics for the assigned discipline area.
- Collaborate with special programs (Bilingual/ESL, Special Education, 504, Gifted and Talented) to support and improve students’ outcomes.
- Consult and collaborate effectively with principals, assistant principals, teachers, team leaders, department chairs, parents, and community stakeholders, communicate district instructional goals and objectives of the assigned discipline area.
- Monitor student achievement data in the area of elementary language arts and reading and interpret, report, and act on results.
- Secure consultants, specialists, and other community resources for campus and District staff and curriculum development.
- Provide effective professional learning activities by using the State’s Language Arts and Reading standards, District goals, program evaluations, and teacher and administrator input.
- Assist with T-TESS upon request.
- Assist principals regarding personnel upon request.
- Implement the policies established by Federal and State law, State Board of Education rules, and Board policy as pertains to the assigned discipline area.
- Recommend space, equipment, instructional materials, and facilities necessary for the implementation of approved programs.
- Supervise the organization, distribution, and maintenance of instructional materials and equipment as appropriate.
- Ensure that teacher expectations are effective in furthering the teaching/learning process and environment.
- Stay informed of research, disseminate ideas to other professionals, identify trends and opportunities and apply this information as appropriate.
- Adhere to professional and ethical standards and maintain active participation in professional organizations.
- Communicate District curriculum, instructional and staff development practices in the area of elementary Mathematics, as well as accomplishments, goals, and instructional initiatives to parents and others in the community.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

| EXPERIENCE: |
- Three years successful elementary classroom language arts and reading teaching experience (K-4) preferred
- Three years of successful instructional leadership experience which includes facilitating and/or working with teams (i.e., team leader, campus instructional coach, curriculum writing teams, etc.)
- Experience leading professional learning presentations
- Experience in development of curriculum, implementation and evaluation
- Experience using instructional technology in the classroom

| QUALIFICATIONS: |
Education/Certification:
- Master’s degree in educational administration and/or curriculum and instruction preferred
- Valid Texas Teaching Certification in the appropriate content area (Language Arts)
- Instructional Leadership Training (ILT) or Advancing Educational Leadership (AEL), or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire
- District approved teacher appraisal system (T-TESS), or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Extensive background and working knowledge of elementary language arts and reading curriculum, current research on effective instructional practices, diagnostic assessment, and professional learning
- Ability to evaluate instructional programs and teaching effectiveness
- Ability to interpret policy, procedures, and data Strong organization, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Strong knowledge of instructional strategies for at-risk and gifted students Knowledge of the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills for K-4 language arts and reading Knowledge of CISD READS and WRITES Structure and its alignment to the Research-Based Instructional Strategies (RBIS) and the science of reading
- Ability to assess elementary language arts K-4 needs and articulate and implement a vision to meet those needs
