JOB DESCRIPTION: |
Maintain the daily operation of maintenance, repair, and installation of ice machines, kitchen equipment, appliances and refrigeration systems for the district facilities. |
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: |
- Maintain, repair and service refrigeration equipment, including scheduling work orders, and locating and purchasing of all parts and materials to complete the work orders.
- Assist Plumbing& Equipment Maintenance Supervisor with day-to-day operation of all refrigeration, including repair and maintenance.
- Make sure all work orders are completed on a timely basis and time and parts are reviewed, completely accounted for, and turned in for posting on the computer.
- Diagnose and repair malfunctions in various types of refrigeration systems.
- Review contracts/proposals from outside contractors and forward to Plumbing & Equipment Maintenance Supervisor for approval.
- Report major findings to on a daily basis both verbal and/or in writing to Plumbing & Equipment Maintenance Supervisor
- Follow chain of command for all proposals or contracts and related departmental issues.
- Repair, replace, or calibrate controls, thermostats, switches, fuses, and electrical wiring related to refrigeration equipment.
- Fabricate, assemble, and installing piping according to specifications and code.
- Wire and connect motors, compressors, temperature controls, and humidity controls according to wiring schematics.
- Maintain Freon dispensing records to meet federal requirements.
- Maintain preventive maintenance schedules and procedures for all refrigeration equipment, including changing of filters and cleaning condensers and coils.
- Receive and complete work orders.
- Select material and hardware and make time and materials estimates.
- Maintain accurate records on material and labor used.
- Maintain inventory of District-owned tools, equipment, and materials.
- Inspect jobs upon completion and ensure areas are clean.
- Work with building principals, directors, and supervisors to complete refrigeration projects.
- Detect needed repairs on equipment following established inspection procedures.
- Respond to emergency calls as needed
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Plumbing & Equipment Maintenance Supervisor
- Operate tools, equipment, and machinery according to prescribed safety procedures.
- Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting, climbing, etc.
- Correct unsafe conditions in work area and immediately report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor.
- Keep shop, equipment, and tools in safe operating condition.
- Follow all local, state, and federal building codes and regulations.
- Be available to address all emergencies and after hours needs as assigned.
- Coordinate with Plumbing & Equipment Maintenance Supervisor and Child Nutrition Department operations personnel.
- Provide training to District employees as needed.
- Report all and any defects to Plumbing & Equipment Maintenance Supervisor regarding workmanship and code violations pertaining to building or mechanical codes.
- Report deviations from manufacturer specifications to Plumbing & Equipment Maintenance Supervisor.
- Respond to emergency calls as needed and be on-call/stand-by as assigned by supervisor.
- Maintain regular attendance.
- Follow District and Department guidelines for reporting and/or requesting absences.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Other duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE: |
- Minimum five years of service and repair work on refrigeration equipment
- Job experience shall include all types of equipment from commercial refrigeration, including freezers, coolers, ice machines, and complete working knowledge of various food equipment
- Minimum one-year of supervisory experience of refrigeration repair personnel

QUALIFICATIONS: |
Education/Certification
- High School Diploma or GED
- Valid Texas driving license
- Type Universal Certification per the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Federal Clean Air Action Section-608
Special Knowledge/Skills
- Must be able to maintain and repair all types of refrigeration equipment
- Ability to service various food equipment
- Basic computer skills in database, word processor and spreadsheet applications and programming for direct digital controls (DDC) applications
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, schematics, and written reference material
- Ability to perform mathematical calculations
- Ability to diagnose and resolve problems
- Ability to use hand and power tools

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervise Equipment Technicians and coordinate refrigeration contractors.
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Moderate walking, standing, climbing, heavy lifting, carrying, stooping, bending, kneeling, and reaching. Work outside and inside around moving objects, vehicles, and machinery with moving parts. Be able to lift up to 50 pounds above head. Exposed to dampness and humidity, toxic chemicals, exhaust fumes, gasoline and diesel fuel. Frequent District-wide travel. |
